Traffic Tricks Everyone Can Do

Viral marketing is the term used for "spreading the word". SEO is search engine optimization for your website to get natural search engine traffic. Essentially then, viral marketing is everything but SEO. Ad campaigns, verbal promotions, print ads, newspaper articles, PPC, email marketing, ezine articles - literally everything else is viral advertising.

There are so many ebooks, newsletters, articles and blogs about getting traffic to your website that you can't keep up with all the reading. Why try?

Most websites are aggressively promoting their own products. We are different. We simply explain to you how to get traffic to your website.

While most websites and ebooks present the same stuff over and over for you to download and print or read later, I summarized it all for you below.

All those ebooks and articles say the the same old thing, sometimes with a new idea thrown in at the end which may or may not work for you. I've read enough of them in the last several years, and frankly, I forgot to keep track. But it includes the basics below.

These are the basics to getting traffic every newbie must learn. I have updated these traffic tricks with the latest trends in Internet Marketing today.

How To Get Traffic and WHO Are Your Visitors?

This is a quick summary of what everyone should know about visitor traffic.

Search engines will eventually find your website, unless you specifically make it private. Today search engine companies and some directory sites will send out a crawler program to index the websites they find on their huge databases.

When people "google" a keyword phrase, the Google database is searched for a keyword pointing to, i.e. linked to, the website where that keyword is found and used several times. The results are listed on a SERP, or search engine results page, in order of their rank, set by the search engine algorithm program for ranking all their websites. Your goal is to rank high enough to be listed on the first SERP. Your reward will be organic targetted traffic who are interested in your content about that keyword. This traffic costs you NOTHING.

Viral traffic visitors probably come with more initial interest in your subject, or you. They are surfing and clicked on a link to your website. If they found a print or television reference, they may have typed in your website address ("domain name" or URL). They may have come from your signature in an email, a PPC or other online ad, or a link on an article in print or online.

When your site is interesting or "sticky", it means your visitors arrive from local bookmarks or favorites. These visitors find your content specifically interesting or fun. They want to visit again later and perhaps often.

My "sticky" success story is my CoolGamePlace.com where I host free online games and have information about PC's and PC Gaming. I host GoldMiner games and many people come to play GoldMiner Vegas every day. I host online Mahjongg and other fun games too.

Regular visitors can be your goldmine. Of course, capitalizing on that traffic is where online promotions on your "landing page" is important.

You hope your visitors are INTERESTED in YOUR PRODUCT. This will get you the best conversion (of traffic into sales). You want THE RIGHT VISITORS to come to your website.

Selecting the RIGHT KEYWORDS to attract the right visitors will increase your chances of having your visitor interested in your niche and offers. This is another whole subject I discuss elsewhere at PlanBreview. You should change your website and ads and tweak your offers to improve your visitor to sales ratio. Keep adding new keywords and new content pages that use your keyword phrase often.

You should monitor the visitors statistics on your website. You can use them to tweak your keywords and content and improve your sales (conversion).

It is considered unprofessional to display a visitor counter on your website. Faking the counter to start above one (like at 50,000) is pretty easy and took away its credibility.

Find a statistics tool or screen on your hosting account with all the stats you need to examine your visitors and successful keywords. Some hosting accounts provide AWSTATS which displays technical detail that can be confusing.

I like HITSLINK because I can set it to notify me via email when my visitor traffic reaches a certain level. I can also set it to ignore my own visits which you can't do directly with AWSTATS.

Of course you need traffic and there are a myriad of ways to get your visitors. Tragically, I just paid for an ebook (it was cheap) that had hundreds upon hundreds of tips. I didn't read one that was innovative. So here is a summary of the basics to getting visitors to your website.

Tricks To Get Interested Visitors

Here are the Traffic Tricks that the experts use and you should employ. It can take awhile to get good at it. Marketing is a craft rather than a science, or we would all be millionaires. Use catchy and interest drawing phrases in your ads and make them relevant to your offer. Think "would I click on my ad". If you don't get the results you want, change your ad. Many say you should run more than one ad and test each version for the best results.

  1. Get listed in popular Directories. You may have to pay for some listings. Use a catchy title and description. A graphic banner will help even more. I have heard that it is a good idea to vary your descriptions in your listings, but be sure to include your best keywords.
  2. There are submission services you can purchase, but they still take time to get your listing added. Do this step early. Some directories will manually review your website before deciding to include it, so make sure it looks professional first.
  3. Get reciprocal links from and to related sites, preferably with a high ranking - this will help drive your search engine ranking up too. Link partner tools are available to make it faster.
  4. Build your own list of subscribers using an autoresponder form on your website. Give away something FREE to get visitors to sign up.
  5. You may purchase leads to add to your "list", but not just any leads. You will profit best from targetted opt-in leads. These are people who agreed to receive email from areas in your niche arena. There are scammers pushing lead lists that are useless to you, so be careful.
  6. Use your autoresponder and broadcast to your list once or twice a month. I don't recommend communicating more often though, as it turns them off and they may unsubscribe from your list. Be sure to send them teaser information relevant to their interests and have it link back to your landing page that promotes the product you want to sell them.
  7. Add new articles related to your niche. First post them on your website. After a few weeks, submit them to article submission sites with your author's box and link to your article and sales landing pages on your website. Be sure to use your keyword phrases throughout your articles.
  8. Use your keyword phrases often. There are detailed methods to getting high-paying targetted keywords and interested visitors that is too detailed to go into here.
  9. Be sure you have setup a good professional landing page for the links from your article.
  10. Be sure to test your "landing page" in your referral links. Change them as needed for your topic, PPC ads and emails for your keyword phrases.
  11. Create a related blog about your niche. Use links from and to your website in every page of your blog. Try to use your best keyword phrase in the name of the blog. Your ranking will improve when you post to your blog often, even multiple times per day. This will bring search engine spiders to update more often and bring natural traffic.
  12. Pay for print advertising in local newspapers, magazines, etc.
  13. Drop your business cards with your website links everywhere and post them on local bulletin boards, give to friends and business contacts.
  14. Sign all your emails with your signature links.
  15. Join forums and post "helpful" responses and interesting questions using your signature links.
  16. Pay for some PPC ads to start the ball rolling.
  17. Monitor your PPC advertising. Be careful how much you spend by setting daily limits and review/change your keywords to get visitors interested in your offer without paying too much.
  18. Find a Joint Venture partner with a big list!

The Newest Innovative Tricks To Get Good Visitors

The newest trends include videos, flash movies and podcasts on places like MySpace, Facebook and YouTUBE. Each points back to your website.

When you have new content you want to be pinged by every important online directory and notify the search engine "spiders" to "crawl" your website again. Find them with your own search but only use RELEVANT links and directories. The big search engines are programmed to crave new content. Content is KING!

  • Set up each post like an article on your website with the right keywords to grab interested Internet traffic and surfers to visit.
  • Use "Social blogging" to get links from and to other blogs and podcasts. Make appropriate comments on other blogs using your signature links. Do the same in forums and be sure to post useful information about the topic under discussion.

Pay dirt comes if some credible experts with big lists of their own decide to promote you and your product. Joint Ventures are the best way to become profitable in certain niches. The experts will only consider helping you when you really have something worthwhile to offer - and you give them a nice percentage. It helps to meet them personally at a seminar or socially first. That is what Sterling Valentine did. (He is famous for JV Formula.)

    Patience, or Money, or Both

Internet surfers reward the websites they like and trust. They want the basics done right - websites with good navigation, easy to read, nice graphics, credibility, good products and a great offers. These websites convert visitors to profits. You want your visitor to stay awhile and read your content and offers. Continue to monitor and make changes until your website profit level has reached it's full potential.

Even after stuffing your website with lots of good competitive keyword phrases and sending out articles with your "author's box" link to your website, you still need patience to get "natural" search engine traffic. Add new relevant content - the more often the better.

Links are very important to increasing your ranking. It takes time or money to get high level links to your website. Plus you will receive a bunch of emails from most link builders. It is best when you only use related links. They add relevancy which will improve your ranking with most search engines. Most search engines are now punishing websites with unrelated links.

It can take time and patience to build your list. You may want to work a separate related website, or landing page that offers free reports to help you, though purchasing a list will reduce time. You want to select a relevant list of opt-in subscribers and know how to integrate them into your autoresponder system.

Even if you send a good offer to your list, you may find that it takes time to build your credibility with your readers. Many of them will simply delete your emails or unsubscribe until you have established a relationship with them or build your own credibility.

"They" say it takes an average of seven exposures to an offer to get a sale. Broadcast your offer several times and provide them a reason to click back into your website offer "landing page".

Testimonials, awards and business partnership logos help to establish credibility. Use professional-looking graphics. Be sure to personalize any template or design for best results. Ensure your website is professional and content-rich to increase your ratings and natural SEO results.

You can spend money placing ads in some of high-traffic related websites and find that money well spent if your ads are catchy and lead to sales.
