Using the Tools & Tricks for YOUR New Internet Business

How to "SELL" on the Internet

It all comes down to Marketing - Where and How you Advertise

When you sell anything on the Internet, it all comes down to Marketing and where and how you invest your time and money. Yes, you do need a good website with products people really want. Then you can sell your product(s) with the right marketing campaigns and strategies.

Traffic and Getting Visitors to Your Website, Hopefully in Droves

It is not really as easy as it sounds. There are millions of websites on the Internet. Many people find what they are looking for by using search engines. Google, Yahoo, and MSN are the most popular today. Others find a link to your website in emails, or in articles, banner ads and links on websites they visit.

    Traffic Tricks

There are many ways to drive free traffic to your website with banner exchanges and online promotion website services.

Here is one from FreeViral.com which is FREE. They build a downline which works like a pyramid for traffic. I am leaving this link below only for your benefit. It has given me none.

Send me One Million FREE Guaranteed Visitors - I decided many of these freebie links are duds. If you want, you can check detailed stats for Entry Points and see how much traffic you get from freebie links. I don't bother. I know I haven't had a million hits here (and it's been awhile). But if it's free, you can add it anyway. Just don't spend forever on the effort.

Conversion is Turning Traffic into Customers

Before you market anything, you should have product(s) people want. One way to discover what people want is to use some of the Internet tools for studying popular search terms entered in the major search engines. There are some great tools available for this. Some are free. You will also want to use these when you are ready for Search Engine Optimization involving loading the "right" keywords into your website for "natural" search engine traffic.

But copywriting is the art or skill used to convey information to your visitors that makes them want to purchase your product or use your service. Begin recognizing good sales copy (the promotional pitch) when you see it on other websites and in direct sales information you get in the mail. The best copy wins!

There are different styles and theories, but the basics include presenting benefits as features and make sure there is plenty of "beef" in your offer. Use great titles and keep them reading from paragraph one. Give them an offer they can't refuse - right?!

    Keywords and Why They Matter

When you want to Make Money Online with your website, KEYWORDS do matter - a lot!

Keywords refer to those phrases typed into a search engine that people use to find the information that they are looking for. When your website name, titles, and content contain the keywords people are looking for, you hope they find your website when they conduct their search. That gives your website "natural traffic" or "organic traffic". It can save you lots of money in advertising, obviously, as you would get FREE visitors to your website from search engines.

Finding several good keywords to use in your website is one of the steps of Search Engine Optimization, or SEO, a term you may have heard before. You can read more about keyword selection in the SEO section here.

This free tool from Digital Point will help you find more keyword phrases that you can consider using.

It will bring you directly to their website (in a new window) where, unless you have registered there already, they ask you to enter the displayed code for security reasons. This ensures a person, rather than a computer program, is requesting the evaluation.

You will have some advantage if you also determine who your competition is before you proceed. If your competition is large, you may want to choose another product. Another option is to make sure that your prices or website are much better than your competitors.

The easiest way to see your potential competition is to enter your desired keyword into Google. You can see how many pages are found containing your term.

There will probably be a lot of SERP results. Don't be discouraged yet. Visit a few of those websites. Can your website provide more specific information on your topic and product? Or maybe you can offer more alternatives, better prices, or something that makes your website more desirable than theirs. Make notes what websites you might want to contact later for possible linking partners.

OR, if you decide you want to choose another product line, or keyword phrase, you can "play" with the keyword tools and using them to search yourself. A good goal is to discover a highly searched term with low competition to choose a more profitable market, or product line. It requires some effort, but with this method you will understand your competition.

Most people I have talked to like Wordtracker for keyword research. It has a free trial to see how it works.

You can download Good Keywords from Softnik to run on your PC. They have a free version and other tools you might want. There will likely be more and better tools around too. There may be new features that will help in your analysis.

A new keyword tool has just been brought to my attention. The free trial did not work well for me, but they may have fixed the problem. You can give it a try - Keyword Research Tool by Trellian. I will stick with WordTracker.

    Website Design - Look Professional

Another important aspect in getting a visitor to purchase your product is to have a professional looking website that has clear navigation links. It should look nice, load fast, and have all the links working right. Missing graphics is the first sign that a website is not being maintained properly, and a turn off for customers. Finish your website and make sure it works well before you spend money on advertising.

Convince Them to Buy with Strong "Ad Copy"

The content you enter into your website should be relevant to your product and should ultimately convince a visitor to purchase your product. This is commonly called copywriting, or writing "ad copy", or simply sales copy. It was commonly called "dm copy" for direct mail copy used in direct mail sales letters prior to the rise of the Internet. Now dm copy is considered an old term. Good ad copy is VERY important to getting sales. Just posting a nice picture and pasting a description does not work very well.

Persuasion techniques are very important. There is a lot of information on using the "art of persuasion" for your ad campaigns (and everywhere in life). A while ago I took a course on Copywriting from AWAI (the American Writers and Artists Institute). I learned a LOT, realized I wasn't naturally inclined to use it and have begun to focus on it more because it is so important.

A quick summary is to make an interesting and strong sales pitch using persuasion, strong titles, testimonials, PS. at the end to recap your offer and urgency, and bonuses. They say it is a skill that anyone can learn. All the Internet millionaires use strong ad copy. These hard sales pitches are claimed to work really well. The Internet gurus are millionaires.

A name for this method is the Internet Sales Letter. The technique became highly popularized by Yanik Silver, one of the most famous Internet gurus. I discuss Yanik Silver more in Sell Information Products and in Yanik Silver review.

Yanik "automated" the process of creating strong ad copy with his first major successful website InstantSalesLetters.com. Yanik has taught the value of a 2-3 page website with a very long main page that promotes a single product with stong ad copy. He is one of those millionaires.

If your Internet Business is a catalog store model, or affiliate store model with sensational or hard-to-find products or very low prices, you might be successful with good traffic and without using strong ad copy. It really depends on your business. Just think of why you buy what YOU buy, how you were convinced to purchase, and how you can weave that knowledge into your website.
