Affiliate Marketing is Selling Other People's Stuff

Almost everyone sells other people's stuff, but Affiliate Marketing here describes ways to get commissions for sales or actions by customers without managing the order processing, inventory and shipping.

Essentially the producer of a product is hoping others will sell his products to increase his sales. For this, he pays his "affiliates" for their marketing efforts. The amount they share varies and it is worthwhile to select products with high margins, or that sell very well so you get paid enough to make your efforts in promoting the products worthwhile. The process is managed by an affiliate processing application or "bank" that manages many products.

It has become very popular to build one or two page websites where your customer can order something (or do something) which pays you money. You are paid through your embedded hoplink, which is a special link that includes your id code. Many affiliates just select one product (and a few bonuses, as I have seen). Then they build a huge marketing campaign around it and watch the money roll in.

Recently I listened to a great teleconference setup by Merlin & Harris (more on them later) with Yanik Silver, a legend in the Internet Marketing biz, who spoke for an hour about Internet Businesses. While I had heard much of the information discussed in my prior research, I want to be sure to credit them here. If you want to pursue your own Internet Business, I highly recommend that you do as much research yourself as you proceed. All these resources will help you understand Affiliate Marketing better.

Yanik Silver is incredible - what a salesman! Well he DID start with Marketing, so he DOES know of what he speaks. I have been receiving his email series for awhile now. He used to charge thousands for his courses, but now he charges less, and mini-courses for much less. His system will walk you through selling information products, creating strong ad copy on a two or three page website, and make profits within 33 days. I am doing this now, and excited to see how well my first project will work. I plan to keep you posted here. Read more about this method in the Information Products section.

In Internet Businesses, there is NO Limit to what you can try. You can have several websites that fail, and try the next thing, and it works!

The key to conversion and profits in this system seems to be in the great "ad copy" (sales letter) of their single product websites. You too will need to learn to "sell your product" by creating enticing "ad copy" on your websites. I read that it is a skill most anyone can learn. Read more about "selling your product" in the Copywriting - Sales section. You should plan on creating direct copy advertising on your website to sell anything on the Internet.

Yanik Silver even "automated" the process of creating strong ad copy with his first major successful website: InstantSalesLetters.com. He has since produced other great information products too. Some of them are listed here.

Yanik Silver is also capitalizing on his great affiliate program. That's where Merlin & Harris come in. (Me too.) In that great teleconference put on by Merlin & Harris in their 12weekintensive program, they are promoting Yanik Silver products and others. They DID a great job marketing as they had indicated that their audience was thousands strong with every state and several countries represented. Congratulations to them! In effect Yanik Silver is happily giving us affiliates a host of great information that we are invited to pass on to others, for which he will pay us a commission. He is even sponsoring a contest for the best affiliate success stories.

Then there is the "look alike" product group. That's right; they are out there. In a search for Yanik Silver, I also reached the website: AffiliateClassroom.com. It is an example of the Affiliate Internet Business model with some interesting marketing strategy, I'd say. I was surprised to discover after signing up for his affiliate program and receiving my first email that I saw the author was Anik Singal, not Yanik Silver. His name was NOT on the initial website. He offers another source of Affiliate Classroom (on-line) training though. There seems to be multiple ways to learn about becoming an affiliate marketer. You might want to check out several resources yourself. Hey, his program sounds good too!

Clickbooth.com is a leader in service/member products like gambling sites, surveys, business offers and such. There are others and you can find many more with search engines. Just KNOW WHAT your agreements mean. You will have to sign them as you proceed.

YOU DON'T EVEN NEED A WEBSITE to Promote many of these Products

That's right! Many of the products can be marketed completely with Email Autoresponder campaigns. Read your agreements to be sure, but some allow your hoplinks to be completely setup in the email messages you send. The only website involved is the publisher's where they continue the selling process and have the order buttons. If this sounds interesting, check into the AutoResponder section for more details. Meanwhile, here are some affiliate "banks" that offer some hoplinks for email campaigns.

Clickbank.com is the King of Affiliate Vendors for Information Products. Essentially, you sign an agreement with the Affiliate Banks that provide the links and graphics for each of your products. They are the ones that pay you, so they need your bank account for automatic transfers, or they may agree to send you a check. You should read their agreements and understand your responsibilities before using their links. They have tools that you can use to keep track of your sales. Also keep in mind that your selection of products and their commission rates varies. This is part of the skill you would need: to pick a good product that you can sell well.

Super-Affiliates are "SUPER" Affiliates

You can also build content-rich websites that have several relevant affiliate links in hopes of increasing your profits. This is often called Super-Affiliate Marketing.

I enjoyed reading Rosiland Gardiner's e-book Super Affiliate Handbook and it changed my focus. She wrote:

I hope Ros is right. Rosalind first build dating site reviews and made nearly half a mil a year! I liked her Theme Park and could understand why it would be useful. What did I know as well as Ros knew dating? GEEZ - technology and building websites, and now trying to learn how to make money with websites.

I had finally finished my Yahoo store in time for Christmas and only had one order, and product issues! If you are so inclined, I wrote up the story in Internet Stores & Auctions. By the way, I'm not knocking this method. If you have a good product source or your own products, you can jump over there and get started building your ecommerce website. Mine is now closed, but I had fun creating Halloween, Christmas and Valentine's Day themes. The programming was more fun to me than working on products and catalogs.
